The Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires stands on Plaza de Mayo as one of the city’s most important religious and historical landmarks. Its striking neoclassical façade, resembling a Greek temple with twelve Corinthian columns, contrasts with a richly decorated interior that reflects centuries of Argentine history.
The cathedral is also notable as the former church of Pope Francis when he served as Archbishop of Buenos Aires, and it houses the mausoleum of national hero José de San Martín, making it both a spiritual center and a symbol of Argentina’s national identity.
