"Ancient land, enduring people"

ThesAfghanistan is a land shaped by thousands of years of history, standing at the crossroads of Central Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East.

It has been influenced by ancient civilizations, Silk Road trade, empires from Alexander the Great to the Mongols, and the deep cultural traditions of Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara, and Uzbek peoples. Despite decades of conflict, Afghan culture remains rooted in hospitality, poetry, music, craftsmanship, and a strong sense of honor and resilience, reflecting a society where history, faith, and daily life are inseparably intertwined.

These photographs were taken in Afghanistan at and around Camp Alvarado, located in Kabul, using early pocket cameras and mobile phones under demanding conditions.
